One memorable experience hosting Discovery’s Breaking Magic was the opportunity to work with a large Tesla Coil. By wearing a special suit, I was able to channel and direct the electricity being generated by the coil. During rehearsals I found that extending my arm caused electricity to discharge from my fingertips, while pulling my arm closer to my chest caused it to stop. By keeping one hand close to my body and extending the other, then slowly reversing positions, I could create the illusion that I was physically holding a lightning bolt and passing it from one hand to the other. You can see this at 06:48 in the video below. I’d love to do this again someday.
